Pillar Four
POSITIVE GOVERNANCE
POSITIVE GOVERNANCE
GOVERNMENT SHOULD WORK FOR THE PEOPLE IT SERVES.
Good government begins with a simple responsibility:
Listen to the people. Understand the facts. Make thoughtful decisions. Be accountable for the results.
Public decisions affect real people, real families, and real neighborhoods. Hillsboro deserves leaders who take the time to understand the situation, consider the alternatives, and make responsible decisions based on the best information available.
And when we learn something new, we should be willing to change.
Core Commitment
“FACTS SHOULD INFORM DECISIONS. PEOPLE SHOULD SHAPE THEM.”
This is the guiding principle behind how I believe Hillsboro should approach public decisions.
Facts can help us understand a problem.
Residents help us understand how that problem affects their lives and their community.
Good leadership brings those perspectives together.
Core Commitment
HOW I WILL LEAD
LISTEN
Seek out the people who are affected by a decision. Listen to residents, neighborhoods, businesses, community organizations, and city staff.
ANALYZE
Understand the facts, consider the alternatives, evaluate the costs and consequences, and ask the questions that need to be asked.
DECIDE
Make thoughtful, responsible decisions based on what we know—not simply because something has always been done a certain way.
MEASURE
Look at the results. Did the decision accomplish what we intended? Are residents seeing the benefits we expected?
IMPROVE
When something works, build on it.
When something doesn't, acknowledge it and make it better.
TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
IT WILL TAKE ALL OF US.
Every public dollar represents an investment made by the people of Hillsboro. I will work to ensure that those dollars are managed responsibly, spent transparently, and directed toward measurable results that benefit our community.
“Residents deserve to know where their money is going, why it is being spent, and what results their investment is producing.”
- Clear information people can understand
- Open communication before important decisions are made
- Responsible and transparent use of public funds
- Measurable results that demonstrate value for every dollar invested
- Accountability when something is not working
GOVERNMENT IS A TEAM EFFORT
NO ONE OF US IS AS SMART AS ALL OF US.
City staff bring expertise. Residents bring lived experience. Businesses, organizations, and neighborhoods bring perspectives that matter.
Good government brings those voices together.
My job as a councilor is to listen, ask the right questions, bring people together, and make responsible decisions for Hillsboro.
TEAM HILLSBORO
I CAN'T DO THIS ALONE. NONE OF US CAN.
The work of building a better Hillsboro belongs to all of us.
Team Hillsboro is about people showing up, listening to one another, sharing ideas, and working together for the future of our city.
Together, we can build something bigger than any single issue or policy: a healthier future for all of Hillsboro.
THE FUTURE WE CAN BUILD
TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE HILLSBORO THE HEALTHIEST CITY IN OREGON.
A city where people feel safe.
Where families can thrive.
Where our water, air, land, and neighborhoods are protected.
Where growth is thoughtful and opportunity is shared.
Where government listens, communicates, measures results, and earns the public’s trust.
